Plant Records (A-L)

UNDER CONSTRUCTION!

Name: Beca's Pink Crochet
(1 plantlet left as of April 2013. Will cull variety most likely as leaves halo no matter what I do and the blooms are not my favorite shade of pink.)
Description: (9891) 02/04/2008 (C. Beca) Double pink frilled star. Dark green, heart-shaped, quilted/red back. Semiminiature.
Date Received:  August 14, 2012
Purchased/Received From:  Jack's Violets - EBAY
Size When Received:   Starter & sucker.
Condition When Received:

1 of 11 from this vendor. All of the plants were "on sale" and most clearly had issues. This was one of the better ones. Curly edge on center leave.
IMPROVEMENTS SEEN
AFTER JUST 3 WEEKS.

General Growing Comments:  Seems to be a fairly symmetrical plant on it's own - trouble free grower at this point. Not enjoying the haloed leaves! Blooms are very pink so probably won't be needing more than a couple of these on shelves at a time! Cut blossoms seem to be lasting well so that's a small consideration on the plus side; when mixed with other colors the pink is not so objectionable.
Ladybug stopped by for a minute...

Propagation Record: Set leaves on arrival 9/15/12.
Having trouble even with the plantlets growing cupped leaves and then exhibiting haloed edges as the leaves get older.

Name:  Blueberry Kisses
(A couple plantlets left, stubbornly trying to find the right spot it likes to grow in. Not putting up with it's crap for much longer!)

Description: (10221) 01/27/2010 (P. SORANO/LYNDON LYON GREENHOUSES) Single Blue Cupped Pansy. Medium Green Shaped Girl Foliage. Semiminiature.
Date Received:  August 14, 2012
Purchased/Received From: Jack's Violets - EBAY
Size When Received:   Starter plant.
Condition When Received:

Photo actually taken several days after arrival AND after I accidentally poked at a leaf right in the center of the plant to see if it would lay flatter.
(See oops tag!)
After 3 weeks at right.

General Growing Comments: New growth filled in my oops missing leaf spot quickly. Some markings at edges of leaves seems to be from when center was tight and smaller leaves were stuck under the previous row. Seems to be improving. Moved to end of shelf and stripped plant back to center growth. As usual girl foliage giving me grief but I remain determined! Plantlets coming along quickly and may be growing out nicer under my own conditions.
Propagation Record: Set leaves on arrival 9/15/12.
First "mouse" ears (easily visible):  ♥ PRODUCED 1st BABY 9/16/12! ♥
Potting Record:  Re-potted 9/15/12 on arrival in my soilmix.

Preventive Treatments:
Disbudding:
Date First Bud Appeared (above foliage):
Date in Full Bloom:
Blooming:   Not True - possibly mislabeled/Debbie checking. LOVE whatever it is...worth finding out or growing for decorative purposes.

Propagation Record:  Set leaves on arrival.

Number of Plantlets: 3 or 4 as of April 2013.

Name:  Cupid's Jewel
Also on the CULL short list as proving more bother than it's worth finding lighting solution.(List is getting longer!)
Description: 2/17/2005 (Lyndon Lyon Greenhouses/P. Sorano) Semidouble-double pale plum star/darker eye. Medium green, quilted, serrated. Semiminiature.
Date Received:  August 14, 2012
Purchased/Received From:  Jack's Violets - EBAY
Size When Received:   Starter
Condition When Received:

YIKES! Had 2nd thoughts about EBAY impulse after seeing several plants like this. Thankfully improving under my growing conditions quickly.
After 3 weeks at right.

Date in Full Bloom:
Blooming:   May Not be True? Pinker than Lyon's website shows, although lightening more fully open.
General Growing Comments: What a mess! This one finally straightened out and put on a show in full bloom. Center will probably be a mess again with "bouquet" blocking out the light. Leaves much softer since growing in my conditions but still has issues!
Massive display of blooms at "full"!
Propagation Record:  Set leaves on arrival 9/15/12.

Name:  Darling Blue Trail
Description: C. Sotkiewicz) Single dark blue. Medium green, pointed, quilted, serrated. Semiminiature trailer
Date Received:  9/14/2012
Purchased/Received From:  Gift from a friend :)

Size When Received:   Cutting.
General Growing Comments: Blogged. Twisty little cutting frightened me a bit! How would I ever get it under control? Debbie promised it was an easy grower and she doesn't lie!
Just 2 months of growth made me a believer :)
Propagation Record:  Set leaves on arrival   .
First "mouse" ears (easily visible):
Number of Plantlets: A fair few!
(For experimental purposes, of course :)

As of April 2013 this is what she looks like now.
And this only 2 crowns!!
Very stubborn plant; to get more crowns you should probably pinch 1st crown early on - OR just let it bloom.
Pulling off leaves/planting deeper encouraged
larger growth. Letting it bloom kept smaller leaves with multiple crowns. Depends on what you like.
Obvious solution: DO BOTH!
(look how pretty it is ;)

Name:  Elise
Description: (M. Tremblay) Single semidouble pink/coral blossom with white outline. Large standard.
Date Received:  9/14/2012
Purchased/Received From:  Gift from a friend :)
Size When Received:   Plant
Condition When Received: Much bigger! I may need to rethink how aggressively I re-pot new arrivals. But it was FUN playing in plant pots again!!
This was the first one I introduced myself to from this gift box. ♥

9/15
Turned out the plant, removed "a few leaves" and set them as insurance. Gave her a bath, removed potting mix so it would be in mine as I top water.

General Growing Comments: Have nearly killed the main plant ... not sure it likes me yet! Moved to end of shelf with less light. Running out of ends of shelves so may need to adjust entire shelf setup!
Plantlets are coming so we'll see how they do.
Propagation Record:  Set leaves on arrival   .
First "mouse" ears (easily visible):
Number of Plantlets: Only 2 survived and begged for spot on the windowsill.

Name:  Heaven's Reflection
I have way too many of this: time to CULL. MANY.
Description: (S. Sorano) Semidouble lavender/some darker tones. Variegated. Standard
Date Received:  August 14, 2012
Purchased/Received From:  Jack's Violets - EBAY

Another plant from this vendor with twisted center.
Improving! Most of the leaves are new since arrival...removed many trying to help the center get around itself.
After 3 weeks at right.

Blooming:   Wasn't sure it was True at first.
Huge buds show deep purple. Once opened, looks more like others I've seen.
General Growing Comments: Huge improvement by November! Leaves hugging the pot more than I wish. Lighting adjustment needed.
May try over potting to see if problem is being left in small pot size too long.

Better but still living on the edge . . . next stop is a windowsill.
So SHAPE UP!

Date in Full Bloom:
Blooming:   Not True - probably sported?
General Growing Comments: Blogged sporting event discovered in November. YIKES!

Stripped plant back to 4 or 5 leaves to start over. Seems to overcome birth marking and then it returns. May learn to live with off colored leaves as bloom has sported pretty.
Propagation Record:  Set leaves on arrival 9/15/12.
Number of Plantlets: 3

Disbudding:
